ABOUT GWANGWA CDSS
Gwangwa secondary school is one of the community Day Secondary schools in Malawi. It is located in central region, specifically in Ntchisi District in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo. This school is found fourteen kilometers away from Mponela Trading Center along Ntchisi Mponela road.
Gcdss started with the construction of a two classroom block which was built by the community. After the completion of the block they invited the head of state by then to come and open the school. President Dr Bakili Muluzi came to open the school on 23rd November 1998.
On 4th March, teaching and learning started with only twelve students who were just registered from Gwangwa primary school. Two teachers started the school and these were Mr. M. G Mpinganjira and Mr. A. S Kampota as the Headteacher
and the deputy Headteacher respectively.
In the early 2006 the school was blessed with four modern classrooms, a library, laboratory and the administration block this was done with funding from the African Development Bank. GCDSS has now enough classrooms for 400 students.
The school has managed to construct a boys hostel on its school development fund (SDF) and a girls hostel with funding from Skimmel.
It’s the wish of the people of Gwangwa community to see the school growing to a well equipped secondary school. The people of this school dreams of having a hall, a very good kitchen and enough girls hostels which may attract a lot of girls into the school.
The school has had Peace Corps volunteers from the United States of America. These people also assisted in teaching
and other development projects. Some of these volunteers were Kelly Petrowski, Mike, Christinna and Liam Carney.
